Our theme is Fire-Adapted Plants and Animals!

Did you know that some species here in the Santa Monica Mountains have evolved to live with fire? Plants like chamise and laurel sumac are adapted to resprout following fire, allowing the land to heal. Coyotes can make their way back to burned areas quickly, often to hunt. Our region has always existed with fire, and there are so many special species that continue to show us that.

Create an art piece using any of the accepted mediums that highlights a fire-adapted plant or animal! We ask that you stick to native species. Join us in celebrating the amazing biodiversity we have here in the Santa Monica Mountains!

To submit your artwork, please use the Google Form below. We ask that you provide:

  1. The name of your artwork

  2. A short description of your artwork

  3. The dimensions of your artwork

  4. 2 to 3 photos of your artwork

Winners will be contacted in the beginning of May.

We hope that this inspires creativity and connection in students throughout the region!
