Wildfire Learning Center

The Wildfire Learning Center is located at the LAcoFD Malibu Forestry Unit, 942 Las Virgenes Rd, Agoura Hills, 90301. This site includes a demonstration structure and garden displaying proper home hardening and defensible space practices. In addition to the exhibit, the forestry unit has a Native Plant Nursery, which provides free plants to residents of the Santa Monica Mountains.

Demonstration House

The construction was designed and oversaw by the RCDSMM , with support from FormLA, this demo house includes all fire safe building and home hardening elements. The building consists of non-combustible siding, a class A roof, double-paned windows, and metal gutters.

Demonstration Garden

The Demonstration Garden consists of a clear Zone 0 and then diverse mosaic of fire safe plants, including succulents, pollinator plants, grasses, and more. This was designed by FORMLA and the LAcoFD.

Free Native Plants

Come by Tuesday - Friday from 9 AM- 5 PM to get native plants for your home garden. They have a variety of succulents, grasses, native trees, and more.

Landscape Consultation

Professional Foresters can assist Property Owners with Land Management concerns. This is a 2 hour walkthrough to help identify and solve problems.

A Forester will meet with you on site to advise you on such issues as:

  • Soils

  • Tree care

  • Erosion control

  • Fire Safe Landscaping

  • Drought Tolerant Landscaping

  • Plant health (insects, diseases, abiotic disorders)

Conservation Education: Field Trip Series

The Malibu Forestry Unit can provide your school or organization with conservation education programs such as:

 

  • Fire preparedness in the Wildland Urban Interface

  • Environmental preservation

  • Wildlife habitat preservation

  • Urban Forestry

 

County Foresters can visit your classroom with a variety of audio-visual and hands-on materials. Or join a Forester at the Malibu Forestry Unit for a unique outdoor experience.
